Entertaiment is a broad term that encompasses many different activities. It can be playful and enjoyable for children (who often imitate adult entertainments, such as watching performances); provide a way of training for social interaction or physical skills; serve an educational purpose, such as the various forms of ceremony, religious festival or satire; or develop into professional sports, which may then be broadcast as entertaining spectacles. Moreover, what may appear to be pure entertainment for one person or group may have serious underpinnings, as in the case of public executions or wars. Entertainment can also be adapted to any scale, from a single person selecting a pre-recorded product to a banquet for two, or to performances for thousands or even the global population.
